Newsprint Nails

Published November 23, 2013 by beginnersnailart

Hi everyone. I’ve been meaning to do a tutorial on this design for a while now. I tried it for the first time over a year ago and this is only my second go at it. It’s one if the easiest designs to do and, apart from drying time, is really quick. The majority of tutorials I’ve seen use rubbing alcohol to transfer the print to your nails. This time I used it but the result was no different than my first attempt using water. For it you’ll need a base colour of white or grey (or a very pale pastel) polish, a small bowl with water or rubbing alcohol (your choice), a page out of a newspaper cut into 10 squares just larger than your nails, tweezers, a cotton bud and a matte top coat. I used Essie’s Limo-scene and a matte top coat from Rimmel.

20131123-225240.jpgStep 1: once your base coat dried apply two or three coats of your base colour and let it fully dry.

20131123-225427.jpgStep 2: cut the newspaper into 10 squares just a little longer and wider than your nails (make sure you get bits with the most print on them).

20131123-225649.jpgStep 3: soak a piece of the newspaper in the bowl for a few seconds.

20131123-225801.jpgStep 4: remove it with the tweezers and place it onto your nail. Soak the cotton but and gently press the newspaper onto your nail. Press down and hold for around 30 seconds with your finger ( don’t rub as this will smudge the ink).

20131123-230028.jpgStep 5: remove the newspaper with the tweezers. Repeat for all your nails and it’ll look something like this. Let the ink dry for a couple of minutes.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, thanks for looking, Kirsteen.
