Galaxy Nail Design

Published September 30, 2013 by beginnersnailart

Hi everyone. I decided to try this design after seeing all the amazing versions of it posted on Instagram by everyone taking part in the September Nail Challenge. You’ll need a black or very dark blue polish for the base colour, a purple, pink and white polish, a fine glitter polish, a toothpick and a small piece of a makeup sponge. I’ve used Nails Inc’s Motcomb Street, Rimmel’s Purple Rain, Beauty UK’s Soft Pink, Collection 2000’s French White and Sally Hansen’s Golden Rule.

20130930-222450.jpgHere’s everything I used for this design.

20130930-222626.jpgStep 1: after your base coat dries, apply two coats of your dark base colour and let it fully dry.

20130930-222818.jpgStep 2: sponge the purple polish across your nails, where you want your galaxies to be.

20130930-223025.jpgSponge the pink polish across the middle of the purple…

20130930-223424.jpgStep 3: dip your toothpick in the white polish and dot it onto your nails to create some stars.

20130930-223714.jpgStep 4: apply a coat of your fine glitter polish to create more sparkly stars.

How To Fix A Split Nail

Published September 9, 2013 by beginnersnailart

Hi everyone. I really hate when one of my nails splits, especially when it’s so far down. I’ve tried a few different methods of mending them, but this works best for me. You’ll need nail glue, a toothpick, a paper towel, a fine grain nail file and a nail buffing block.

20130909-192202.jpgHere’s my repair kit. Brush on nail glue is easier to use, but I didn’t have any left.

20130909-192419.jpgStep 1: after removing your nail polish, wash and dry your hands. Make sure your split nail is totally dry.

20130909-192928.jpgStep 2: apply one or two drops of nail glue over the split. Use the toothpick to spread the glue over and under the split.

20130909-193252.jpgStep 3: separate the layers of the paper towel and cut a small square out of one layer.

20130909-193454.jpgStep 4: place the square into the glue (making sure the split is in the middle of the square) and press down with the toothpick.

20130909-193923.jpgStep 5: apply a drop of nail glue over the square of paper towel and press it down again with the toothpick. Let it fully dry.

20130909-200645.jpgStep 6: file any excess dried glue off the edges of your nail then gently buff to smooth out the dried glue and make the repair flush with the rest of the nail.

20130909-201220.jpgStep 7: apply a base coat and let it dry. Now your nail will be solid until the split grows out.

Ombre & Double Animal Print Nails

Published September 4, 2013 by beginnersnailart

Hi everyone. I’ve seen a few different versions of this design online & thought I’d give it a go. You’ll need white polish, two bright, contrasting colours of your choice, a makeup sponge, a black striper and a small dotting tool. I used Collection 2000’s French White, Vevo’s Take Time and Open Arms, a black striper from Primark for the zebra print and the polish from the striper with a dotting tool for the leopard print.

20130904-230116.jpgHere’s what I used for this design.

20130904-230332.jpgStep 1: after your base coat dries, paint your nails one coat of white and let it dry.

20130904-230520.jpgStep 2: paint your two colours onto a makeup sponge and dab them on diagonally. Apply a second coat after 5 minutes.

20130904-230750.jpgWhile the polish is drying clean up around your nails.

20130904-230939.jpgStep 3: with your striper, paint zebra stripes across the bottom half of your nails.

20130904-231228.jpgStep 4: dip your dotting tool in the black polish and apply leopard print across the top half of your nails. Let the black dry completely to avoid streaking.

20130904-231530.jpgStep 5: clean up around your nails, apply a top coat and let it dry.
